Welcome to Madra Mania – the IPDGA Annual Grooming Conference
Madra Mania is the highlight of the IPDGA calendar and a must-attend event for groomers of all disciplines and experience levels. Held over two inspiring days on the second weekend of October, this annual conference brings together the very best of the grooming industry for learning, competition, and connection. With an energetic mix of championships, seminars, live demonstrations, trade stands and a fabulous catch-up with old friends and new, Madra Mania is where the grooming community truly comes alive.
Our grooming championships are what truly set Madra Mania apart. Unlike any other competition, we proudly recognize all grooming disciplines — Scissor, Clip, Handstrip, Asian, Model Dog and Creative and we welcome competitors at every stage of their journey. Classes are available for New to Grooming (under one year in the industry and never competed before), Novice, Open, and Champion, ensuring an inclusive and supportive competitive pathway for everyone.
The dog grooming competitions are overseen by four highly experienced judges, who not only assess the work presented but also generously share handy hints and professional tips throughout the event, making the championships as educational as they are exciting. Across all classes and disciplines, competitors are working towards the ultimate title 'Madra Mania Groomer of the Year', a coveted award that recognizes outstanding skill, consistency, and excellence.
A much-loved and deeply meaningful part of Madra Mania is the Spirit of Mary Award. Nominated by IPDGA members, this special award honors a groomer who has shown outstanding kindness, support, and generosity within the grooming community. It recognizes those who continue to share knowledge, encourage others, and uphold the warmth and inclusivity that defined Mary, our founder. The Spirit of Mary Award is a heartfelt reminder of the values at the core of Madra Mania and celebrates the people who keep that spirit alive year after year. Marys family select the winner and it is fantastic they are kept involved with their mothers legacy.
After nearly 30 years, the competition has continued to grow and evolve, and is now widely regarded as the highlight of the grooming year.
In 2025, Madra Mania proudly introduced its first-ever cat grooming competition, which proved to be a huge success with over 50 entries. Judged by internationally renowned groomer Helena Wittwer, this landmark addition reflects the continued evolution of Madra Mania and our commitment to celebrating grooming in all its forms.
