Its just four days away from this years K9 expo Dog Grooming competition. Last year in its first year it was held In Gosford forest park in Armagh. It was definitely a unique location for a grooming competition but I loved it. I found pet friendly accommodation right beside the forest and made a weekend of it. With an early start I took my own poodle Elmo for a quick forest walk at 4 am before washing and fluffing him.Luckly the sun was shining and the grass was bone dry. The venue was in a large marquee outdoors at the forest. All the stall vendors were already setting up as there was a large agricultural show on at the same time. The marquee was brighter than i expected. I had visions of shining my phone on legs to scissor them in a tent with pounding rain. It was basic with boards covering the ground so the surface was even so no rocky tables and a cordened off spectator area. This was my first competition outside of Dublin so I was glad to see some familiar faces from the IPDGA As we launch into the summer rush, isn't this weather great for business, we should also be planning what we are going to use as our competition dog/s in October. Remember this years Grooming Championships is at the later date 29th and 30th October. Our visiting judges and demonstrators are the World renowned Anita Bax and Peter Young. Don't worry if you don't know them we'll tell you more about them closer to the time, suffice to say that they are a pleasure to have over. Our Saturday time table will run the same as last year with the Scissors Class Saturday morning and the Handstrip Class in the afternoon. Saturday afternoon also has the Heiniger New to Grooming and the Novice Class. Sunday morning features our standard Clipped Class with the NEW Asian Styling Class at the same time. Sunday afternoon will feature the ever growing Creative Classes. Thinking caps on guys! Make this the year you take the leap to enter something 😉. The committee are beavering away behind the scenes to make this a super weekend striving for more trade stands, great competition prizes, wonderful demos and scintillating seminars! Let's not forget our 20th Celebration Party Night!! Book those days off work now so you don't have to choose between the Saturday or Sunday -29th and 30th October 2016. Karina Kerrigan, Chairperson IPDGA Professional Progression Acadamy {PPA} we are thrilled to announce that we will once again be having event at the IPDGA Champs in Oct . For those of you not familiar with last years inaugural event here is what its all about ! Visit our website for info & particapation form What is it? It is a chance to work in a competition setting without the pressure of actually competing. When is it? Sunday morning, the same time as the Clipped Class is running. Which is a great time, by the time people start wandering in to spectate you will be quiet comfortable in your little grooming bubble oblivious to them all. Hit read more for full article !! As announced at IPDGA Alison and Christies Groom Pro Seminars we would like to introduce our new award for our members. You can now nominate someone to receive this award by visiting the page on our website under about tab or click on this picture. Many thanks to Member Lorraine for a fabulous image and Mark for help with the graphic layout. If you have not already heard about this award here is a lovely introduction from our Acting Chairperson Karina Kerrigan Introducing our Spirit of Mary Toland AwardIn June 1996 our one and only grooming supplies shop in Ireland – Allied Veterinary Products – decided that they would hold a grooming workshop. This was the first of its kind in Ireland outside of a breed club.
Pat Kavanagh at AVP saw the rise in demand for the few bits of equipment that they carried and decided to put together something to pull all these groomers to a seminar. Us oldies appreciate the suppliers we have now – you had a choice then of an oster a5 or aesculap (mad money) and blades were restricted to 10,7,5,4 skip for oster. Aescaulap had a wider range of blades but they were pricey. Basic 6” roseline and double sided thinners and the 160 all breed book – their catalogue fitted on a postcard!! Diane North and Joanne Angus were invited over to run the workshop (click on green text below) We have a unit to rent at our Homeland, Ballaghaderreen, store which is ideal for a Dog Grooming Business. The unit is next to our busy garden centre and is fully wired and plumbed together with an adjustable Dog Grooming Table. Anyone interested in setting up a Dog Grooming business at the store should contact[email protected] for more details.
Two of our members kindly took the time to share their experiences after our recent seminar with Alison Rogers - many thanks for sharing. Scroll down for written reviews . Attending the Alison Rogers demo was a memorable experience , not only because it was held in a nightclub but also because it was the first IPDGA event without the wonderful, ever-smiling Mary Toland. Although I didn’t know Mary personally I felt the loss of her presence greatly and I’m sure her friends and fellow committee members were all feeling very emotional that day. I thought Alisons words about Mary were so lovely and heartfelt and of course Karinas talk about the ‘Spirit of Mary Toland Award’ had many of us shedding a tear or more. I’m sure Mary would be so proud that Alison came to Ireland and that all the committee worked so hard to make it such a success.
It was a super demo, the little Cavachon who started off as a ‘she’ but was actually a ‘he’ looked so cute with his hair clips and bandana. I’m not sure he was too impressed though with his girly accessories!!! I really liked Alisons tip for trimming the ears and I’ve tried it myself since and its worked very well. |
